Residents in Singapore resorting to supplements to stay healthy?

"She takes an assortment of vitamins and a supplement for her joints - costing her $350 per month"
"High daily doses of certain vitamins can cause more harm than good to the body."
"For example, high doses of vitamin C have been known to cause kidney stone."

No doubt, we do receive a lot of health information via TV, newspaper and internet, however, we may not know the accuracy of the information.

For example, people here spent up to $638millions a year on vitamins and dietary supplements, it's because of influence from media i.e. advertisement or through friend or did we really done research on it before popping it?

We all know vitamins/minerals are important nutrients for a healthy immune system, but the question now is we should know where is the correct source to obtain the nutrients that our body need.

Is taking vitamin pills same as taking an whole food like Orange?

Between a plate of fruits or vegetables vs multivitamins supplements – which one will u choose?

Is it a good or correct practice?

These are topics we need to be concerned about. Higher risk of mortality associated with taking vitamins or multivitamin supplements.

Again, is supplement same as wholesome food?

Some even shared with me that despite taking daily doses of Vit and multivits supplements, their health didn’t improve.  They still constantly develop into migraine, frequent flu, fever and cough.

Be a wise consumer, go for wholesome!

What are Antioxidants? (Part-I)

Antioxidants has become more and more popular nowadays as it is essential for us to stay younger thereby stay healthy.

However, do you really understand the function of antioxidants and also correct sources of antioxidants?

Please read below to have better understanding on antioxidants:

 Source: http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/antioxidants.html

Antioxidants are man-made or natural substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. Antioxidants are found in many foods, including fruits and vegetables. They are also available as dietary supplements. Examples of antioxidants include:
  • Beta-carotene
  • Lutein
  • Lycopene
  • Selenium
  • Vitamin A
  • Vitamin C
  • Vitamin E
Vegetables and fruits are rich sources of antioxidants. There is good evidence that eating a diet with lots of vegetables and fruits is healthy and lowers risks of certain diseases. But it isn't clear whether this is because of the antioxidants, something else in the foods, or other factors.

High-dose supplements of antioxidants may be linked to health risks in some cases. For example, high doses of beta-carotene may increase the risk of lung cancer in smokers. High doses of vitamin E may increase risks of prostate cancer and one type of stroke. Antioxidant supplements may also interact with some medicines. To minimize risk, tell you of your health care providers about any antioxidants you use.

"Look and feel younger!" "Reverse the aging process!" "Boost your energy!" What could possibly do all that? -- antioxidants, devoted pill-poppers will tell you, despite the fact that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has prohibited manufacturers from claiming that consuming their antioxidant products will reduce disease risk.

Each year, countless hopeful Americans shell out billions of dollars on antioxidant supplements (nearly $2 billion, in fact, just on beta carotene and vitamins C and E), believing they will dramatically lower their risk of cancer, heart disease, and memory loss. Most experts agree, however, that taking antioxidants is not a shortcut to good health or the answer to staying young. So, where does that leave us?

Antioxidants block the process of oxidation by neutralizing free radicals. In doing so, the antioxidants themselves become oxidized. That is why there is a constant need to replenish our antioxidant resources.

The amount of antioxidants in supplements may be so high compared with that in the diet that it leads to a toxic effect.

Other nutrients may be present in fruits and vegetables that work in sync with antioxidants and are necessary to provide a protective effect.

The American Heart Association, for one, does not recommend using antioxidant supplements "until more complete data are in," but instead, suggests "people eat a variety of foods daily from all of the basic food groups."

Message is clear!

Antioxidants is indeed important, however we should obtaining antioxidants from natural sources such as wholesome plant food, which is definitely no side-effect and safe!

This is align with Nutritional Immunology, which advocates the consumption of wholesome plant food.

How did i get to know with Nutritional Immunology

I graduated from Chemical Engineering in year 2002. Thereafter I started my career in the Oil & Gas industry as a chemical engineer.

As years go by, due to the work stress and long working hours, my health took a decline.  I started to experience chronic gastric pain and various health problems, including frequent headache. Which I believed some of you may be able to relate to.

Just like many would do, I seek help from doctors, even the specialist and the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).  Often, the medication would work for me for some time before the pain comes back again.

It was a frustrating period for me as I was not able to perform my normal life routine, and it affected my work performance.

Through a sharing from an ex-colleague, I learnt about the science of Nutritional Immunology. Upon researching more into the science and by attending numerous trainings by the world renowned Nutritional Immunologist, Dr Jau Fei Chen,
I was amazed by the wisdom in the science of Nutritional Immunology.

To me, nutritional immunology is the Key to Disease Prevention

My family and I has benefitted greatly from this science.

By practicing a NI lifestyle, my health condition has improved, and I no longer suffer from gastric pains, headaches and constipation. In fact, I feel more energetic despite being a mummy of 2 young children and running my own business.

My mother who is in her 60s, used to have back and joint problems. By practicing a NI lifestyle, she too has regained her health and able to pursue her interest in travelling.

In fact, my husband, who suffered from sinus problem for more than 10 years also successfully regained his health by practicing a Nutritional immunology lifestyle. An additional bonus for him, is that he successfully shed off the extra kilos gained throughout the years. At 36 years old this year, his weight is the same as 20 years old with BMI of 22!

With the knowledge in NI, I’m blessed that my 2 daughters (aged 5 and 3) are free from medication since young, unlike some of their peers who has chronic cough or even bronchitis, or all sorts of infection.

Hence, I am very passionate in sharing this wonderful science to the people around me.

Feel free to contact me if you would like to find out more on how to take care of your and your family health through NI lifestyle.
