Many people know that a diet high in meat is linked to high cholesterol, insulin resistance, and chronic diseases such as heart disease, stroke, diabetes, and liver disease. Researchers postulate that this is due to animal proteins containing higher levels of sulfur amino acids when compared to plant proteins. Most adults eat more than two times the recommended amount of sulfur amino acids. As plant proteins naturally contain less sulfur amino acids, this further confirms that making a switch from animal proteins to plant proteins is a healthier choice.
